FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. HOW LONG DOES THE MICROBLADING TREATMENT TAKE?

Microblading is a two-step process, usually 6-8 weeks apart. It is important to complete the initial procedure and touch up.

STAGE 1: The initial procedure takes approximately 2:30 hours. During this period, the consultation is made where we discuss the desired look of the eyebrow, choose a color tone and draw the initial outline of the procedure area for approval. Although our faces are NOT perfectly symmetrical (one side is usually flatter than the other), we do our best to create as much symmetry as possible! As we like to say, BROWS ARE SISTERS, NOT TWINS.

When you are satisfied with the basic shape and symmetry, the area will be traced and the semi-permanent pigment will be applied with a disposable hand-held microblading tool. This procedure uses a manual tool. For the other techniques we use a machine with disposable needles.

STAGE 2: The second stage of treatment is a TOUCH-UP consultation. Retouching takes approximately one hour and is included with your service. Touch-ups are done before 4 or 5 weeks of the initial procedure and after 8 weeks.

It is important that you complete the retouching treatment. Without it, the results will not be great. The color will fade significantly within 4 weeks as the skin heals, peels and disappears. Retouching corrects any irregularities in hair strokes with blades, cold or warming tones and ends the process.

*Occasionally a third touch up (4-7 weeks later) is necessary for certain clients where the pigment does not take as well to the skin.*

Q. HOW LONG CAN I EXPECT IT TO LAST?

The pigment used in microblading is semi-permanent and can last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years, depending on skin type and skin care. The pigment will begin to disappear within 6 to 10 months. This is what we want, for the eyebrows return to their natural origin. To keep your eyebrows looking fresh, retouching is recommended every 8 to 10 months, up to a maximum of 24 months. After 2 years, the full price of microblading will apply.

For clients that choose a softer look and lighter color shade initially or those who did not follow the after care instructions properly may require more frequent touch ups. Some factors may cause your micro bladed eyebrows to fade faster, like: oily skin; iron deficiency; sun exposure; exfoliants; weak immune systems; exposure to salt water; smoking; peeling treatments; laser treatments.

Q. ARE SEMI-PERMANENT EYEBROWS DEEMED PERMANENT?

Technically, semi-permanent micro-pigmentation is considered permanent because the colour is implanted into the upper dermal layer of the skin and cannot be washed off. However, the pigment is implanted more superficially than a traditional tattoo, so it naturally fades over time.

Q. DOES THE APPLICATION HURT?

We take every precaution necessary to ensure the microblading procedure is as pain free as possible. A strong topical anaesthetic cream is used prior to and during the procedure to keep you as comfortable as possible. Some clients find the procedure a little uncomfortable while others report no discomfort at all.

Q. HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY OR HEALING TIME?

Immediately after the microblading procedure and for the first 10 days, your eyebrows will appear significantly darker and sharper than perhaps the desired look. It may continue to darken in the coming days as the scabs begin to form, however, this is not an accurate indication of the final and cured result. 40% of the color of your eyebrow will disappear when the scabs fall out within 7 to 10 days. In some situations, the scabs may take longer to heal and fall. DO NOT PICK OR SCRATCH YOUR SCABS. The pigment is inside the crust and you do not want to remove any pigment from the skin prematurely. We all heal differently and what works on one client may not be effective on another, so don't compare your results.

The complete healing process takes approximately 4-6 weeks.

Q. HOW DO YOU CHOOSE A COLOUR?

We choose the color according to the color of your eyebrows and the color of your hair. All this in harmony with your skin tone. And always looking to make as natural as possible.

Q. CAN I HAVE MY BROWS MICROBLADED IF I’M PREGNANT?

No, you cannot have this treatment done while pregnant due to risk of infection.

Q. DOES IT HURT AFTERWARDS?

The area can be a little sore for the first few hours and tender to touch for a couple days.

Q. CAN YOU MICROBLADE OVER AND EXISTING BROW TATTOO?

Microblading can be done on an existing forehead tattoo, but the old tattoo must be significantly faded. Please let us know if you already have a tattoo and send a photo to our email info@luciasantanamicroblading.com to determine if you are a candidate for this procedure.

Q. WILL MY MICROBLADED BROWS LOOK FAKE?

Absolutely not! Semi-permanent makeup is done using a cosmetic tattoo process and our unique eyebrow pigmentation art ensures soft, natural-looking eyebrows. When we implant semi-permanent makeup pigment into the skin, it looks more natural than topically applied cosmetics.

Q. ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS DURING OR AFTER THE PROCEDURE?

During the procedure there may be some minor bleeding. This depends on the client. If you take blood thinners on a daily basis, then some slight bleeding may occur. Bruising is rare but can occur. There is usually some tenderness for a few days.

PLEASE NOTE: THE RESULTS ARE VERY NATURAL AND FULLER LOOKING BROW. INITIALLY, THE BROWS APPEAR DARKER, BUT FADE SIGNIFICANTLY OVER A TWO WEEK PERIOD. IT IS ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL TO HAVE A TOUCH UP DONE. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO PREDICT HOW WELL YOUR SKIN WILL RETAIN THE PIGMENT. DUE TO THIS AND MANY OTHER VARYING FACTORS, WE CANNOT GUARANTEE YOUR RESULTS.
